Eating Disorders

The severity of eating disorders can vary greatly and are often related to physical or psychological traumas that have occurred in the past. Identifying these traumas and healing from them is an important part of the recovery process.

Treatment for eating disorders are dependent upon the specific disorder and are always tailored to the individual’s needs. Typically, the goal of treatment is to help my clients reach and maintain a healthy weight while simultaneously working through the psychological aspects of the disorder – identifying and decreasing destructive behaviors.

While many people tend to associate eating disorders with young women, that is not always the case. A study published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders reported that 13% of women over the age of 50 had eating disorder symptoms. Additionally, men are not exempt from these disorders either. One of the most popular studies estimated that while 20 million American women will suffer from eating disorders in their lives, 10 million American men will also battle eating disorders right along side of them.
